Faced with an ever-increasing quantity of legal content in need of review, Burckhardt Compression sought an AI technology that would help reduce the time spent reading, negotiating and managing routine contracts, while maintaining the quality and confidence in their reviews. The legal department were keen to implement a technology that could automate time-consuming yet highly standardised work such as reviewing routine NDAs and Supply Agreements, allowing the team to focus on value-added tasks such as high-risk or business-critical contracts, negotiations, etc.

Burckhardt Compression turned to Luminance’s next-generation AI for its ability to automatically take a first pass review of any incoming contract out-of-the-box. By instantly highlighting which areas of a contract are compliant or non-standard according to the company’s internal positions, Luminance provides the ability to significantly expedite contract negotiations. Moreover, since the company manages contracts in multiple languages including English, German, French and Italian, Luminance’s unique language agnosticism was another fundamental feature for the team.

Looking ahead, Burckhardt Compression considers to roll out Luminance’s AI to non-legal teams across the business. For instance, with Luminance’s Self-Serve feature, functions such as Sales and Procurement can instantly and independently negotiate and amend contracts in line with internal standards, helping to reduce the burden on Burckhardt Compression’s legal department and accelerate time to signature.
